Apple and Cranberry turnover

Hi folks! Christmas is almost here! December IS my favorite time of the year and I am always so excited to start planning Christmas menus and experimenting to figure out what I am going to make for my family over the holidays. I saw a recipe for turnovers on one of the numerous food shows  I watch and it seemed simple enough. I am not a baker at all and I only go for simple recipes with minimal ingredients. The idea of measuring exact amounts is so against how I cook (except when writing recipes)  that baking always throws me off. Anyway this recipe is so simple! You can use a store bought puff pastry too which I also used or you can be brave and make some on your own. Hope this help put some of you in the Christmas season! Watch out for more Christmassy recipes in the following weeks!

  • pinch nutmeg
  • 2 puff pastry dough, thawed
  • cooking spray

Step 2 Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a large sheet pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
Unfold the puff pastry onto a sheet of parchment paper. With a sharp knife, cut the puff pastry square into quarters.
Step 3 Place about a tablespoon of the cranberry apple sauce in the center of each square, reserving as much liquid as possible. Fold each pastry square in half diagonally, and place on the sheet pan.
Step 4 whisk together the egg and brush the tops of each turnover. Bake for 16-18 minutes until the pastry is golden brown and cooked through, and the cranberry apple sauce is bubbly. Remove from the oven and let cool on a baking rack.
Step 5 Serve warm with a dusting of powdered sugar and ice cream.
