Sausage and Peppers

Sausage and Peppers

A few weeks ago, I had a few friends over for brunch on a beautiful Saturday morning; we had an amazing time with our friends and their beautiful daughter but the most important thing was the food and I will toot my own horn and say the food was dang good! My friends love spicy food so I decided to move away from the typical sweet breakfast menu and offer something savoury! It was a total HIT!! I made my savoury pancakes with some sausage and peppers. We also had bacon, parfaits, fruits and a signature drink! It was a good time well spent before I had to run off to work.

Today I would be sharing the recipe for the sausage and peppers. I found this recipe through one of the amazing food bloggers I follow; MsAngelaDavis. It is so simple and the best part is it can be made for dinner as well. You can eat it over rice or mashed potatoes. This recipe has become a staple in my house and I am are it would come in handy for when the babies start showing up because it is so simple and gets ready very quickly.  Here is the recipe. Let me know how you like it.

Sausage and peppers

Prep time 30 minutes
Cook time 20 minutes
Total time 50 minutes

Tasty and easy sausage and peppers. perfect for a savoury breakfast or your weekday dinner.

  • 12oz smoked sausage (andouille, chorizo, etc)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 Large red pepper (chopped)
  • 2 Large bell peppers (red and yellow chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (chopped)
  • 1 handful basil (chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/4 tablespoon pepper

Step 1 Chop and dice your sausage, peppers, onions, basil and garlic. Ensure they are all approx the same size, so they get cooked at the same time.
Step 2 Place the vegetable oil in a pan. once hot, add the sausage and cook for 5-7 minutes or until brown on all sides. keep stirring so that all sides gets cooked. Transfer to a bowl and set aside.
Step 3 In the same skillet the should still have oils plus the fats from the sausage, add the onions and begin to stir. Seasoning with salt, pepper, and a seasoning cube if your sausage is a very bland flavour. Stir fry for 3-5 minutes or until caramelized.
Step 4 Add the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes. staring to combine. Then add the bell peppers. Cook for 5-7 minutes to cook through. still crunchy but not raw. Add the basil for an added flavour. Add the chilli pepper to your taste. Add the Worcestershire sauce and stir to combine everything. Taste as you go and adjust seasoning as needed.
Step 5 Add the sausage back into the pan and toss around until thoroughly combined. cook down for a few minutes and serve.

  • These can be served for breakfast like i did with crepes or pancakes. or it can be had with rice or even mashed potatoes. The bits all great enough of a sauce to eat with rice.
  • I had these with crepes when i had friends over and the rest we had for launch the next day with spaghetti.
