Plantain Chips with beef dip

Can you believe it already #gameday weekend! My younger brother has always been a huge fan of football and actually played until university level so #GAMEDAY has always been a big deal in our home. I always wanted to throw him a game day party for him and his friends as an early birthday gift but distance has always been an issue as he lives in a totally different province than me! This year for #gameday aka The Super Bowl he wanted to know some quick recipes he could muster up for some friends that where easy and would not require too much work. Being the best sister in the world, I offered my services completely free of charge and also decided to document these laid back finger food for the blog!

Why plantain chips? well why not? I am sure there are very few people that have eaten plantains and hate them. Plantain chips are always a sure hit and the best way to make them at home is to buy semi ripe plantains. I decided to make some kind of dip for the plantain. My inspiration was nachos but when I tried it with cheese, I did not like it. The ground beef however was a HIT!!! With game day being tomorrow, you till have time to make this amazing snack for friends! And who are  you rooting for?  Broncos or Panthers????

Plantain chips and ground beef snack


  • 2 Large plantain (almost ripe. More yellow than green.)
  • oil for frying
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4lb ground beef
  • 1 Small red onion (diced)
  • 2 Small bell peppers (red and green--diced)
  • 1 scallions (chopped)
  • 1 seasoning cube
  • 1/4 teaspoon curry
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder


Step 1 using a mandolin, chop plantains into small rounds. Or using a knife, cut plantain as thin as possible. seasoning with salt.
Step 2 Heat oil to 365 degrees. Place plantain and fry till golden.

- Dice/chop all the ingredients before you begin. going our mine en place first ensure everything goes by faster.

Step 4 - Place some oil into a frying pan and allow to get hot. Add the onions and fry till it gets caramelized.
Step 5 Add the ground beef and cook for 4-7 minutes or until fully cooked. Keep staring to ensure all parts are cooked.
Step 6 season with seasoning cube. Add salt and black pepper to your taste and stir till properly combined. Add the peppers and scallions and con for 4 minutes or until they are cooked. serve.
